MoMA Exclusive: This organic cotton crewneck t-shirt commemorates the Artist's Choice: Grace Wales Bonner–Spirit Movers exhibition, which highlights artworks chosen by the acclaimed designer Grace Wales Bonner for their focus on Black cultural and aesthetic practices inspired by the African diaspora. Printed on front is “Spirit Movers,” a concept that Wales Bonner believes is embodied by each selected work to conjure new connections between people and places. “Dream in the Rhythm,” placed on back beneath the designer’s embroidered monogram, references the accompanying publication Dream in the Rhythm: Visions of Sound and Spirit in the MoMA Collection, which borrows its name from a passage in Kenyan author N'gũgĩ wa Thiong'o's 1965 novel, The River Between.
Established by the Central Saint Martins graduate in 2014, the eponymous London-based label merges European heritage with an Afro-Atlantic spirit to create a new definition of luxury fashion that embraces broader perspectives. The Grace Wales Bonner Spirit Movers T-Shirt is made from 100% organic cotton. Available in sizes Small through X-Large.
